Special Meetings

Different associations and foundations organize meetings and symposia before and in parallel to the WCN 2007, offering participants unique opportunities for knowledge sharing and networking.

Date: Sunday April 20 - Saturday April 21, 2007
Venue: Hotel InterContinental - Av. Prefeito Mendes de Morais 222, Rio de Janeiro

April 2007 also marks the joint annual meeting of ISN’s two WCN organizing partners: the
Sociedade Brasileira de Nefrologia (SBN) and the Sociedad Latinoamericana de Nefrología e
Hipertensión (SLANH) that will be of interest to the Brazilian nephrology community and Latin
American nephrology network.

WCN 2007 and the SLANH/SBN Society Meeting represent a unique opportunity for
nephrology in Latin America. The Societies’ joint meeting convenes societies, associations, and
groups related to nephrology and hypertension at the local level, while the WCN 2007 will unite the
Latin American nephrology community with nephrologists, cardiologists, diabetologists,
researchers and other healthcare professionals from related medical disciplines across the globe.

In the spirit of promoting educational exchange the SLANH provided 15 grants to Latin American
nephrologists presenting a poster at the WCN.

This symposium brings together 10 years of accumulated clinical data across 12 DOPPS countries. It will describe international differences and time trends in practice patterns and outcomes. These analyses will help to prioritize the modifiable practice patterns according to the impact that they could have on clinical outcomes. Special statistical approaches for DOPPS analyses make the findings on practice patterns highly relevant for clinicians.

Chairs:
Friedrich K. Port, USA
Norbert Lameire, Belgium
