Satellite Symposia

In support of their respective outreach programs, the International Society of Nephrology (ISN), the Sociedade Brasileira de Nefrologia (SBN) and the Sociedad Latinoamericana de Nefrología e Hipertensión (SLANH) have invited local and regional societies to fully benefit from the organization of the 2007 World Congress of Nephrology. Set to address a wide range of exciting and timely topics complementing the main congress program, the WCN 2007 Post-Congress Satellite Symposia will each feature a first-class panel of speakers offering all participants yet further opportunity to enjoy debate and exchange of the highest degree.

Satellite topics currently include:

  • Renal Disease in Minority Populations and Developing Nations
April 25 – 27, 2007, Petropolis, Rio de Janeiro (Brazil)

This WCN 2007 Post Congress satellite meeting will feature over 20 of the world's eminent experts in the field of nephrology and will serve as a platform to discuss and debate the latest advances in epidemiology, prevention & clinical nephrology.

  • The Cardiovascular System in Chronic Kidney Disease
April 26 – 28, 2007, Buzios, Rio de Janeiro (Brazil)

To further explore and discuss the “reno-vascular interaction” or “cross-talk” between the kidney and the cardiovascular system, this symposium will convene the renal, hypertension and cardiovascular communities to discuss current and future directions within the field.

  • Early Detection and Prevention of Chronic Renal Disease: Time to Act
April 27-28, 2007, Punta del Este, Uruguay

The overarching goal of this WCN 2007 Satellite is to encourage nephrologists to implement programs for the detection and prevention of hypertension, diabetes, and CKD and to communicate the magnitude of the problem to communities and governments worldwide. The symposium will be targeted towards nephrologists in general, but also towards health authorities, health care workers, general practitioners, diabetes and cardiovascular physicians.

  • Acute Kidney Injury: Emerging Concepts - WCN Satellite Symposium
April 26-28, 2007, Salvador, Bahia (Brazil)

The program covers the most important advances in the pathophysiology and clinical aspects of AKI, as well as recent developments in renal replacement therapy. In addition, it will cover topics such as Acute Lung Injury, Mechanical Ventilation, Hemodynamic Monitoring and New Strategies on Sepsis Management and also include a special session dedicated to tropical nephrology.

  • Pediatric Nephrology
April 27-29, 2007, São Paulo (Brazil)

Joining an outstanding national panel, the distinguished guest speakers will cover a dynamic, stimulating program on diagnosis, clinical management and ethical issues related to experimental and clinical aspects of nephro-urological congenital and inherited diseases.

  • Bone, Stone and the Kidney
    April 26 – 28, 2007, Angra dos Reis (Brazil)

The main aim of this WCN Satellite is to help disseminate the latest international KDIGO nomenclature for Chronic Kidney Disease Mineral and Bone Disorders (CKD-MBD) and discuss the latest therapeutic advances in CKD-MBD and topics related to the regulation of calcium, magnesium and phosphate metabolism affecting bone.

  • Stem Cells and Renal Diseases: Potential Use in Kidney Injury
April 25 – 27, 2007, Foz do Iguassu, Paraná (Brazil)

This symposium will provide a basic overview of the biology of stem cell handling and processing as well as its current clinical use. The plasticity of stem cells to differentiate into glomerular cells and their role in transplantation along with the potential use of stem cells in nephrology will also be discussed.
