The ISN Amgen International Prize for the Therapeutic Advancement in Nephrology was established in 2003 to recognize those who have increased the understanding and treatment of kidney disease through basic or clinical scientific research, leading to therapeutic advances.
For 2007, Eduardo Slatopolsky (Washington University, St. Louis,
USA) has been selected as the recipient of this prize. Eduardo
Slatopolsky has dedicated his entire professional career to the
study of the kidney and for more than 30 years he has been at
the forefront of major scientific achievements.
His experimental research in mineral metabolism in the clinical
arena has lead to profound changes in the everyday practice of
nephrology. The selection committee in particular praised “his lifetime contribution to the role of phosphate retention in the pathophysiology of renal failure and its treatment”.
