Guidelines

Abstract submission is now closed.

Abstracts should address aspects of clinical nephrology or the scientific background to the study of the kidney.

1. Abstracts can only be submitted electronically by completing the online Abstract Submission Form.
2. Abstracts sent by post or email will not be accepted. No exceptions can be made.
3. Authors may submit their abstracts until the deadline: December 15, 2006, Midnight CET

No abstracts received after this date will be accepted. Should you experience any problems with your electronic submission or do not receive a confirmation after submitting your abstract, please contact:

Ms. Lara Poethig
Tel: +41 22 33 99 629 – Fax: +41 22 33 99 601
E-mail: wcn2007@mci-group.com

  1. The abstract submitter will be required to provide his/her email address as the login and a preferred password. This will enable the abstract submitter to return at a later time to update/edit the submitted abstract(s). To save any abstract all required fields must be completed. Submitted abstracts cannot be edited after December 15, 2006.
  2. Each abstract submission must be related to one of the WCN 2007’s 8 core themes (please refer to “Themes”). The submitter must select the most appropriate topic(s) for the abstract on the submission form.
  3. For standardization purposes, the acceptable format of abstracts is Rich Text Format of no more than 3 000 printable characters (including headers, authors’ information, non visible characters such as spaces and line breaks). Please refer to the word count of the system as slight differences may occur when counting with WORD or similar programs.
  4. Abstracts must be structured as follows:

    Introduction
    Methodology
    Results
    Conclusion

  5. The Methodology section should contain sufficient information to be able to understand the experimental design, the analytical techniques and the statistics used in the study.
  6. The Conclusion should provide only findings of the study directly supported by the results, along with implications for clinical practice, avoiding speculation.
  7. Abbreviations should be defined.
  8. Graphics, tables and images can be added to the abstract. For graphics and images the following criteria apply:

    Quality: at least 300 dpi
    Max image width 500 pixels
    Max image height 500 pixels
    Max file size: 500 KB
Please note: graphs significantly reduce the number of characters permitted.

Type of Presentation

  1. All abstract submitters should be prepared to deliver their work either as an oral or poster presentation. There is however a check box option on the Abstract Form to specify exclusion from giving an oral presentation.
  2. The WCN 2007 Scientific Program Committee reserves the right to assign a different presentation format from the one selected by the presenting author.

Abstract Receipt Confirmation

  1. Upon successful submission, abstracts will be assigned an abstract number shown on the screen. In addition, submitters will receive a confirmation by email, containing the final abstract number and a copy of the submitted abstract.
  2. If no abstract number is assigned or confirmation sent this indicates that the abstract has NOT been received.

Review

  1. The Abstract Committee will review the abstracts based on the relevance to the WCN 2007 program, the objectivity of the work, suitability of methodology, conclusions confirmed by objective results, scientific value, originality of the work and overall impression.

Notification

  1. Authors will be notified by February 9, 2007 whether their abstract has been accepted or rejected. Please ensure that these e-mails reach you by modifying your spam filter accordingly.
  2. The Presenting Author of the abstract selected for either an oral or poster presentation must register as a WCN 2007 participant.
  3. If the presenting author is unable to present the abstract, a co-author can take his/her place. A written statement from the Presenting Author indicating the change must be sent to the WCN 2007 Organizing Secretariat office by February 28, 2007.
  4. If the Submitter wishes to withdraw his/her abstract, a written statement reflecting the reasons for this decision must be sent to the WCN 2007 Organizing Secretariat no later than February 28, 2007.

Originality of Abstracts and Publication

  1. Submitted abstracts must describe unpublished work.
  2. Abstracts will be published exactly as submitted. Any abstract considered unsuitable for reproduction will not be published. In cases of abstracts with extremely poor English, the Abstract Committee reserves the right to modify the submitted text. The Abstract Committee however will make every effort in this instance not to alter the meaning of the text and will contact the submitting authors prior to publication.
  3. All abstracts accepted for presentation (either oral or poster) will be published in the book of abstracts.
